About GPS

One person dies in North America every 11 seconds.
Three out of four die without Christ.

God is at work in North America. He is at work in the hearts of those who know Him through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9, HCSB)

Declare His glory among the nations, His wonderful works among all peoples. (Psalm 96:3, HCSB)

In North America, we can reach our neighbors and the nations. In fact, the nations have become our neighbors. God has a plan for every person to hear the Gospel through every believer sharing. Will you be a part of this initiative?

When Jesus gave the Great Commission to His followers, He said, “As you go, make disciples” (see Matthew 28:19). He also said to them, “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21, HCSB).

As we go through the journey of life, we have opportunities to share Christ and make disciples, and sometimes these disciples will become a part of our existing churches. Other times they will join a new church plant.

Along this journey, there are five biblical mileposts: praying, engaging, sowing, going and harvesting. Great Commission ... GPS is about seeing Alabama Baptists pray, engage, sow, go and harvest!

Throughout this ten-year journey, events are being planned to bring Alabama Baptists together to reach our state, nation and world. Each opportunity listed below is designed to:

• create awareness of the lost in our communities, state, nation and world

• help participants understand God’s love for all people and His heart for the lost

• recognize that God has a place for them in His plan to reach all people

• provide a place for participants to respond to the prompting of the Holy Spirit

• gathering of like-minded believers for fellowship, prayer and worship

2010
Across Alabama is an organized prayer experience designed to assist local churches in engaging their community during the Easter season. This includes prayer walking, Gospel distribution and harvest events.

2011  AWAKEN will be a statewide gathering planned by the Missions Mobilization Team. This gathering will introduce believers to the needs of our state, nation and world in hopes of opening their hearts and minds to lostness around them. This will be a monumental event designed to ignite the passion of believers for reaching beyond their communities to a nation and world in need.

2012
Through Reaching Across Alabama, churches will be encouraged to plan and carry out an attractional event to share the Gospel with their communities. Examples of this type of event might be planning a Horse Whisperer event, organizing an antique car show or holding a themed party in your home. All events are designed to attract those who would normally not attend our local churches.
